—————
I’m a hillbilly from Scott County, Tennessee. I’m a multimedia artist which is just a fancy way of saying that I do it all and still don’t quite know what I do. I've been in the entertainment industry for 20 years. I started out singing gospel music and then did regional theater for many years. I've written and produced multiple albums, comedy shorts, and stage productions. People on the internet know me as a Papaw and a general “shitass.” Find Andi Marie on YouTube and check out my latest EP Cherub on Brimstone streaming everywhere!
Arthouse horror
I love art house films. I love horror films. Now I’m getting the best of both. I asked my audience to send me recommendations. They did great! They did too good actually. I had to pare down from 150 to make a list of 15 films to get through by March. My favorites so far: You Won’t Be Alone by Goran Stolevski and Kwaidan by Masaki Kobayashi.
The broken rice bowl at East Side Banh Mi
I get it with caramelized pork. You don’t understand what this dumb, delicious bowl has done to my brain. I wake up at 3 a.m. and think, “I will be getting a caramelized pork bowl tonight for dinner.” Then I orient my entire day around how I’m going to get that bowl 16 hours later. I’m furious about it. Their menu is great and you should check them out.
11 a.m.
Yes, I mean the time. 11 a.m. is wonderful. The sun is out and will be out for while. I am at peak energy and can still maintain the illusion that I'll be able to get all the things done.
The words “ennui” and “ornery"
It’s difficult to fit “ennui” into casual conversation. Believe me, I’ve been trying. It’s a fun word. I like the way words feel. I fall in love with them and I use them and it’s like awkward PDA for my friends who have to listen to me. I'm always calling people “ornery” lately even when they are being very nice and cooperative. It feels like platonic flirting and I like that.
Mel Brooks’ memoir
I just read it. My friend Cybele Elena, another local who is a brilliant producer/designer, lent it to me before the snow week in January. It made me laugh. It made me cry. It was great. He recounted the making of all these wonderful films and the priceless friendships behind them all. I thought about how great it is to live in this town of artists I admire. I thought about how excited I am to make more magic with my friends. Sometimes friends give you books that you actually read.
