I’m Maria Torres, the owner of Torres Vintage in Nashville, TN. I was born in Guadalajara, Jal. México and raised in Antioch, TN. I found a love for vintage and antiques as a kid while going to yard sales and estate sales on weekends with my family. I’ll soon be opening the doors to my new location in East Nashville. Follow along on my Instagram for updates, vintage finds and styling videos.
Vintage nightgowns as daytime wear
Wear them with jeans, wear them as dresses, layer ‘em, wear them as night gowns. Delicate gowns are some of my favorite vintage pieces to find because often times there will be a delicate embroidery or thoughtful detail. There are so many fun ways to style them, but recently I’ve been loving the romantic element of a nightgown worn as a top paired with my “handyman” jeans.
OLO Palo Santo and Arboreta scent combo
My current favorite scent. You can thank Whitney at Holiday Salon and Bathhouse who made this recommendation to me and I’ve never looked back. Scent is like an accessory that helps pull together a look for me.
Doc Marten Mary Janes
I wear these everywhere, from running errands to photoshoots or going out to dinner. If I were to be turned into a cartoon, these would definitely be part of my uniform.
Mal de ojo bracelets
Got to keep the haters at bay with an evil eye bracelet. “Ojo” bracelets are popular in many places but my tias always send me some from Mexico. They capture negative energy that is directed toward the person wearing it. Everyone has their traditions and beliefs with them, but mine is when the Ojo has had its fill the bracelet naturally falls off over time and then it’s time to get a new one. I’ll be carrying them at Torres Vintage!
Crema’s masala chai tea
Long ago I was coffee lover but now I can only drink tea. Crema’s masala chai is my favorite for when I want a fun drink. They also have delicious croissants! This combination of treats + a stroll at Shelby Bottoms is one of my favorite ways to spend an East Nashville morning
We invite every guest to add 5 songs to the WMVA 61.5AM Sunday Mornings Playlist, a collection of music for, well, mellow Sunday mornings. Here are Maria's picks:
- Becca Mancari, "Mexican Queen" ;)
- Brittany Howard, "Short and Sweet"
- ELKE, "Hug from my Homie"
- HalfNoise, "As U Wave"
- Nikki Lane, "Send the Sun"
