Chet Atkins' 1959 Ryman Biscuit
Chet Atkins' 1959 Ryman Biscuit
On July 25, 1959, Chet Atkins performed at the Ryman Auditorium for a “Prince Albert Presents" Grand Ole Opry show (the longest running radio program in the United States). According to Tennessee historian Jim W. Taylor, it's reported that the musicians and crew shared a meal of fine southern fare catered by Swett's, which included, of course, a tray of biscuits.
After the performance, a Ryman stagehand stumbled upon a single biscuit, carefully tucked away in Mr. Atkins' greenroom, likely saved for post-show consumption. This prized biscuit was recovered by the MVA Anthropological Dept. and has remained in our corporate vault for 64 years. It has now been made available for purchase. (Inedible.)
